Hooray, again this year Labor Day weekend will see a whole afternoon and evening of jazz
at Avogadro’s Number. Topping off a summer of Northern Colorado music events, Avo’s
Jazz Fest showcases all local talent, of which there’s a bunch. As we’ve remarked before,
this area is full of excellent jazz bands, and Avo’s is a great place to enjoy them.
This year’s lineup will feature bands with styles ranging from Dixieland through funky far-out, playing on Avo’s two stages. Like last year, starting times will be staggered so you can catch at least a half hour of every band.
Feel free to wander back and forth between the two venues, leave early or stay late. The
last group to play, Glenn Shull’s big band, will stay for an extra set so people will have more
time to dance.
Avo’s is not only a fine music venue but a good restaurant. You can buy your food outside and eat it either on the patio or inside in the stage room, depending on what music you want to hear. Besides a cash bar, various non-alcoholic beverages will be available.
The single admission price for the entire event is modest: $12 at the door or $10 in advance (call Avo’s for reservations). Where else can you get seven-plus hours of authentic live jazz for that kind of money?
